BOX BEAM CRANE RAIL
What if a lightweight bridge crane could not only support large spans...but could also support an overhung load?
Givens Engineering introduces the Boxbeam crane rail (patent pending), an entirely new concept in a crane-mounted manipulator. The Boxbeam is a single bridge that can withstand the moments created by a manipulator.
Ordinarily a, Ergo Arm Manipulator can be mounted on a crane only by hanging it from 2 bridge rails. Typically, in order to achieve enough stiffness, the 2 rails have to be very heavy (or spaced very far apart), which makes the complete assembly difficult to maneuver. The Boxbeam is a single, very stiff rail that can support a Crane-Arm style of manipulator.
The Crane Arm is an unusual type of ergo arm that has been specially-designed to hang from a crane. It has all the advantages of an ergo arm manipulator: It can reach under obstructions and into openings, it can lift offset loads, it can rotate complex loads without regard to the center of gravity, and much more...and most importantly, it can float without up/down pushbuttons.
The only disadvantage of a conventional ergo arm is that its reach is limited by the reach radius of the arm from the column where it is attached to the floor. The Crane Arm mounted on a Boxbeam rail, now combines the versatility of a ergo arm manipulator with the range of a crane.
The essential difference between a hoist (with a cable or chain) and a Crane Arm (or any other manipulator) is that the Crane Arm has a metal column that remains rigidly vertical as it floats up and down. The rigid column then supports a gripper, handlebars, rotary actuators, nut runners, tooling, etc.
The Boxbeam rail now allows wider, lighter bridge spans then were previously possible for manipulators. It does this through exceptional torsional rigidity that is needed by manipulators.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
- Can support over hung loads (no other single crane bridge can claim this)
- Very high bending stiffness, can support large spans when used
- Often lighter than 2 equivalent parallel bridges of the same span and moment capacity
- An excellent choice for trolley hung ergo arms
