LOAD LEVELLING SPREADER BEAM
The load leveling spreader beam is a lift assist hung from beneath a crane that facilitates the lifting of long or over-sized loads.
With a traditional spreader beam, the center of gravity of the load being lifted must remain inline with the hoist cable. If there are multiple loads of varying size, it may become difficult or impractical to locate the center of gravity for each lift.
The load leveling spreader beam is an active lifting device that allows an operator to remotely alter the position of the hoist cable along the load. A worm gear driven by a DC motor translates the position of the lifting lug lengthwise along the lift assist. The motor can usually be sized to be powerful enough to re-level a load even after the load was been lifted into the air.
The load leveling spreader beam is ideal for lifting:
- bundles of structural tubing or pipe
- construction material from the beds of flatbed trucks
- varying models of vehicle or truck chassis
