ENGINEERING SERVICES
MACHINE DESIGN / CUSTOM MACHINE BUILDER / AUTOMATION
Givens Engineering employs both experienced designers and engineers. In addition to material handling, Givens Engineering also provides design services such as product design and engineering analysis.
Our designers utilize Solidworks software to translate your ideas into 3D models. We can also provide AutoCAD drawings. We also utilize COSMOS finite element analysis for complex engineering analysis.
Givens engineering can supply assembly, detail drawings and certification drawings stamped by a Professional Engineer.
In addition to mechanical design, our Engineers can offer consulting for any number of manufacturing concerns such as machine guarding, failure analysis and structural analysis.
ENGINEERING / CERTIFICATION
Do you have a lifting device that requires Certification? Repair? Modification?
We will also provide:
- An engineering analysis of your device
- A dye penetrant weld inspection
- A load test
- Additional inspections in devices with pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical systems
- A drawing to certify your device stamped by a Professional Engineer
PRE-START HEALTH AND SAFETY REVIEW
For factories in Ontario, A Pre-Start Health and Safety Review (PSHSR or PSR) is required for 'the construction, addition or installation of a new apparatus, structure, protective element or process, or modification to any existing apparatus, structure, protective element or process.'
Givens Engineering can provide Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews and assist in the task of bringing any deficient devices, structures or processes into conformance with applicable regulations and/or standards.
In cases where an apparatus may be exempt from a PSR, Givens Engineering can advise and produce the require exemption documentation.
ANNUAL INSPECTIONS (CRANES, LIFTING DEVICES)
Ontario Regulation 851 section 51 states that a lifting device must be inspected by a competent person at least once a year.
Givens Engineering performs annual inspections on cranes, manipulators and below-the-hook lifting devices. Each device is inspected at your plant by one of our technicians. An inspection consists of:
- An inspection of all accessible fasteners to ensure that all are present and tight
- An inspection of the hoist and its operation, a check of its limit switches and the wear of the chain or rope
- An inspection of the trolleys, end trucks, hangers and end stops in cranes
- A list of all safety equipment, for example a test of an anti-tie-down circuit, if there is one
- A check of all welds and high-stress areas in below-the-hook devices.
- A check for excessive wear of hook lugs, gripping pads, etc.
- After each device is inspected, we provide:
- An inspection sticker, attached to the device, showing the date of inspection
- A checklist of items inspected
- A list of deficiencies (if any)
CUSTOM FABRICATION
Givens Engineering employs machinists, welders, electricians, painters, assemblers and machine specialists. The overwhelming majority of our fabrication is done in house for better control over quality and deadlines. Our machine shop is equipped with both manual and CNC mills and lathes.
