TORQUE ARMS / TORQUE TUBES & TORQUE MANIPULATORS
Torque Arms / Torque Tubes are devices that support tightening tools such as torque guns, nutrunners and screwdrivers.
Torque Arms provide 2 main benefits:
1) They absorb the torque that is generated during tightening
2) They provide lift for the nutrunner, so that the nutrunner floats at all times on the end of the arm
The ergonomic benefit of torque arms increase as tool weight and torque are increased.
Givens Engineering offers an assortment of torque arms for a wide range of torque applications up to 750 ft*lb (1000 N*m).

STD-TA
(TORQUE ARMS)
The and series of torque arms are pneumatically balanced, dual articulating arms.
Our torque arms are sized for medium to high torque applications: 225 N*m [167 ft*lb] (max) for the TA2, 565 N*m [417 ft*lb] (max) for the TA5.
(RIGHT ►) - A TA2 torque arm with Atlas 90° nutrunner rated for 2000 in*lbs (225 N*am) torque. The nutrunner clamp is custom and allows the nutrunner to spin about its axis
Torque arms are typically column mounted but it is possible to mount torque arms on a carriage so that it may be moved along an assembly line.
Our basic torque arms are not supplied with a tool holder due to the multitude of applications. A tool holder may be quoted as an optional extra for any torque tool
FEATURES
- Torque arms support the weight of the end effector / tooling, instead of the operator.
- The load 'floats', no up/down pushbuttons are required
- The arms are lightweight and agile. The axis assemblies are made from anodized aluminum.
- Softstops at the first and second axis are adjustable
- The arms are clamped to the post, the height can be adjusted
|
|
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
- Brakes are available for the first and second axis, to eliminate drift
- Bearing block assemblies are available at the end of the second arm allowing the end effectors to rotate
- The parallel arms can be fitted with vertical travel stops
- The STD-TA series is compatible with the Pinpoint 'SmartARM' system. This SmartARM system tracks the position of the tool and allows individual torque values to be programmed for every fastener

STD-SA70
(SPATIAL ARMS)

(SPATIAL ARM) The SA70 is a modular torque arm for smaller torques, assembled from standard components. The dual articulating arm is mounted on linear bearings rather than parallel linkages. Lift is provided by an air cylinder. |

STD-TT
(TORQUE TUBES)
Torque Tubes are a lower cost alternate to torque arms and the spatial arm. Torque tubes generally hang from crane rails and normally cannot withstand the same torque levels as torque arms.
Movement is straight up and down, balanced by a spring balancer or an air cylinder.
Torque tubes can be made to fit almost any brand of enclosed rail.

TORQUE MANIPULATOR CUSTOM ACCESSORIES

Givens Engineering can design and build custom accessories for your torque manipulator application.
(â—„ LEFT) A close up of a "Trombone" for a nutrunner, which holds the nut while the bolt is tightened.
Notice the shot pin at the right, which locks the nutrunner at different angles.
When a trombone is used, there is always the possibility of "torque lock", which makes it impossible to remove the tool from the tightened fastener. To prevent this, we provide an anti-torque-lock device that allows the nutrunner to move free of the fastener.
