Torque arms provide two main benefits:
a) absorb the torque that is generated during tightening and
b) provide lift for the nutrunner, so that the nutrunner floats at all times at the end of the arm.
A “trombone” system is used for tightening nut-and-bolt assemblies, while nutrunner clasps, swivels, brakes, nutrunner pivots, shot-pins, etc. can also be supplied to create a complete solution to any situation. With trombones, “torque lock” is always a danger; we also supply anti-torque lock devices.
Balanced lift is provided by an air cylinder, which makes the arm float freely in a balanced state at all times. Because of this, torque arms do not require up/down pushbuttons. Most torque arms that are made at Givens Engineering are assembled from modular components for any arm length.
