Our new tractor drive for cranes, the ATS, is about half the weight of our traditional tractor drive, the AT (air tractor) or ET (electric tractor). The ATS weighs about 25 lb and can be carried in one hand.
Dave Chivers, who developed the ATS, can explain it best:
For its small size, the ATS has an impressive drawbar pull of at least 120 lb or 500N. That’s enough traction to pull a 1-ton load!
It can be tuned to run very slowly at about .05m/sec, to match linespeed in an auto assembly plant, or tuned to run at .4m/sec for faster movement. That’s an 8:1 speed ratio!
Remember that the ATS is disengageable, so it’s there when you need a boost and gone when you want to pull the load manually.
