Extreme Load Test on G-Rail™ Light Crane Rail System

February 5, 2025

At Givens Engineering, load testing is a standard practice to ensure the reliability of our crane systems. On January 23, 2025, we conducted an “extreme” load test on our C2000 G-Rail crane rail, with results that emphasized the resilience of our bridge crane products.

The C2000 G-Rail, rated for 2000 kg (4400 lbs.), was subject to a controlled load test. Using a Slant Truss configuration, the rail was gradually loaded with increasing force by a chain fall hoist, while a crane scale attached provided precise real-time load measurements. The test load was centered on a 9-meter (30-foot) span.

The C2000 G-Rail, equipped with a Slant Truss, withstood an incredible load of 15,000 lbs.—more than triple its rated capacity. Despite the extreme loading, the rail showed a minimal deflection of 1 3/8 inches, or 1-in-262, demonstrating the exceptional strength of the G-Rail system when equipped with a Slant Truss.

To further evaluate the strength of the C2000 G-Rail, we created a second load test using our “rail-on-rail” bolt-on reinforcement.

This configuration, designed for low-headroom applications, also performed exceptionally well under the same extreme conditions. While the rail-on-rail setup showed slightly more deflection compared to the Slant Truss, it maintained extreme stability and load-bearing capacity, proving its usefulness in industrial environments with restricted space.

Manufactured exclusively by Givens Engineering in London, Ontario, the G-Rail is the best-selling light crane rails and is known for its innovative design. Despite being one of the most lightweight crane rails on the market, the G-Rail continually demonstrates its ability to withstand significant accidental overloads, making it a trusted choice for challenging industrial applications. Best of all, since it’s manufactured in Canada, the G-Rail is 100% tariff-free, offering Canadian customers a cost-effective alternative to imported crane rails.

These extreme load tests showcase the exceptional engineering behind the G-Rail system and reinforce Givens Engineering’s commitment to delivering robust and reliable solutions for material handling challenges.

Chances are, G-Rail cranes are lighter than any imported crane you use every day and that matters when you have to move loads quickly.
