Low-Headroom Bridge Cranes: Solutions for Limited Space

Slant Truss - Givens Engineering Inc.

The Slant Truss was a breakthrough development in the design of bridge cranes, as it added massively to the strength of a rail while adding only minimal weight. But some headroom is added by the Slant Truss.

Givens has developed a variety of methods of addressing the low-headroom issue.

Method #1: Rail-on-Rail Reinforcement

For low headroom situations one alternative to the Slant Truss is the “Rail-on-Rail” reinforcement.
It features a low-profile design that is heavier but combines the main rail components such as:

  •  A main rail component (e.g., C2000)
  • A smaller rail (e.g., C1000), bolted together.

Method #2: Raised End Truck Capabilities

Raised End Truck - Givens Engineering Inc.

This end truck is designated ETR or End Truck Raised in these capacities

  • 250-ETR: 250 Kg Capacity
  • C500- ETR: 500 Kg Capacity
  • C1000- ETR: 1000 Kg Capacity
  • C2000- ETR: 20000 Kg Capacity

Another way to increase headroom when installing a bridge crane is through raised end trucks.

At Givens we have developed end trucks that elevate the bridge to the same level as the runways creating extra space. The hoist is free to travel the full distance between the runways.

Method #3: Raised Carriage Design

The raised carriage brings the hoist or balancer up between 2 bridges. This solution is ideal for:

  •  Applications with extremely limited headroom
  • Operators who can accommodate the extra weight of the second bridge and carriage.

Method #4: Inverted Headers

Inverter Headers - Givens Engineering Inc.

The Inverter Headers provide another efficient way to reduce headroom requirements, ensuring optimal space utilization without compromising functionality.
